About Mary Demere
Mary Demere, age 22, from Montgomery, Al., is currently a senior at the University of Georgia where she is working on her Bachelors of Arts in Journalism. She is also double minoring in Art History and French. Mary loves to travel and spent the entirety of 2009 in Paris, France, studying at La Sorbonne. While there, she realized that wandering in the streets of Paris and finding the perfect café to spend the afternoon sketching or writing about the day is not overrated. She also spent the summer of 2008 teaching at a school in Moshi, Tanzania. It was, without a doubt, the best summer of her life. She loves kids, and teaching in Africa really sparked her interest in education. Additional cool fact: while in Tanzania, Mary summited Mount Kilimanjaro (Even in Africa, it is ridiculously cold at an altitude of 19,340ft). Art history and fashion are also a passion of hers. Her favorite artists are Gauguin, Manet, and Picasso. She loves to read, especially on her kindle. Her favorite book is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. After her world travels, Mary is glad to be back in Athens. As much as she loves to travel, Mary loves the school spirit on the UGA campus that you can’t find anywhere else! ??
